The Global Positioning System ( GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. A Global positioning system ( GPS) receiver calculates its position by precisely timing the signals sent by the GPS satellites high above the Earth. Now, with distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user's position and sends this information to the user, using a GSM module through SMS. The GPS/SMS based tracking system, which uses the GPS, GSM and SMS technologies to enable users to keep track of their vehicles.
